Founder and director Josephine Fitzalan Howard concentrates on European paintings from 15th -20th century. Being half-Danish, she also has an interest and expertise in Scandinavian art of this period.
With a degree in History of Art & History from Bristol University, Josephine Fitzalan Howard spent a decade in the Old Master Paintings department at Sotheby’s, London becoming a director and auctioneer. She then went on to work for international dealers Colnaghi whilst regularly appearing as a picture specialist on the BBC Antiques Roadshow. JFH Fine Art Consultancy was established in 1994.
After many years in the art world, her experience of both the auction houses and the trade enables her to give impartial and independent advice.
She provides a confidential and efficient service to both private clients and institutions, mostly in arranging discreet off-market sales and purchases, guiding clients through the myriad vagaries of the art market, explaining its anomalies whilst identifying quality. She has advised clients on both selling and buying artworks by some of the greatest artists of the last 500 years including Rubens, Rembrandt, Millet, Degas through to Pasmore and Burra.
Josephine is also delighted to bid on behalf of her clients at auctions and advise on the restoration, framing, lighting, hanging and insurance of paintings.
